Special drive nets ₹2.68 crore in tax in gram panchayats in Yadgir in a day

The Yadgir Zilla Panchayat launched a special drive with the slogan “Pay your tax and exercise your responsibility” (Terige pavatisi, nimma jawabdari chalayisi) on November 27 and recovered a record ₹2,68,82,350 in a single day.

A team comprising district-level nodal officers, taluk panchayat officers, panchayat development officers, grade I and grade II secretaries, gram panchayat tax collectors, library supervisors, women members of NRLM self-help groups and other staff participated in the drive and approached the public and convinced them to pay tax due through mobile, Bapuji Service Centres and also UPI payments.

“Our officers’ team put in hectic efforts, and as a result of it, we recovered ₹2,68,82,350 in tax, and it is a record-breaking recovery in a single day,” Lavish Ordia, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Panchayat, told The Hindu. He added that of the ₹2,68,82,350 in tax recovery, ₹2,26,28,935 was recovered from land and buildings and the remaining ₹42,53,415 from other sources.

Yadgir district was in 27th place in tax collection on November 26 but reached 16th place after a high score for the amount that was collected on November 27. So far, ₹8.68 crore in tax has been recovered against its prevailing demand of ₹17.32 crore.

The details of the gram panchayat under which the highest tax was recovered on November 27 are as follows: Gogi (K) ₹12,61,714, Maddarki (₹8,64,719), Hattikuni (₹5,70,480), Saidapur (₹4,61,539), Yaktapur (₹3,05,613), Naganoor (₹2,70,046), Baradevanal (₹3,60,886), Kamanatagi (₹3,59,124), Kalabelagundi (₹3,15,946), Kakalwar (₹2,60,744), Tumkur (₹3,62,451) and Bendebembali (₹2,90,557).

“Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Priyank Kharge had held a meeting to discuss the tax recovery, which was unrecovered and motivated the officers on initiatives that have to be taken, and also advised proper utilisation of the recovered tax for the development of the villages,” Mr Ordia said.

He said ₹2.68 crore would be utilised properly to develop the villages with proper maintenance of streetlights, provide potable water and other basic infrastructures under the Karnataka Gram Swaraj & Panchayat Raj Act 1993, and the CEO congratulated all officers and staff in the drive to recover the tax.
