SPMVV’s call to women to ‘break the silence, begin the change’

Commemorating the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women, the NSS wings of Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) conducted an awareness programme at Peruru village in Tirupati rural on Tuesday (November 25).

Addressing the members of woman self-help groups (SHG) in the village, the NSS programme officers and faculty members P. Neeraja and Padmavati explained the various forms of violence faced by women, including physical, psychological, economic and social. They also enlightned them about women’s safety, their rights, legal protection available and the helplines such as 100, 181 and 1091.

Urging them to ‘Break the silence and begin the change’, the professors told the women to bravely stand up against violence and encouraged them to collectively support and cooperate with each other to create a safer environment for all women.

Referring to the UN theme, they highlighted the alarming rise of technology-facilitated violence in the digital world, such as online harassment, threats, cyberstalking, deep fake and other forms of digital abuse, and the ways to stay safe.

Assistant Project Manager Nageshwar, community coordinators Ramesh and Vahini took part along with the 50 SHG women.
