Sports grounds and indoor stadiums in Vijayawada are being upgraded and modernised to host national and international events, said Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath.

Inspecting the modernisation work at Chennupati Ramakotayya Municipal Indoor Stadium in the city on Wednesday (November 26), Mr. Sivanath said there is a renewed focus on improving sports infrastructure, including grounds, in the city, as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu intends to organise national-level sports competitions here.

Later, the MP announced that the national junior badminton tournament will be held in the city at the end of December, and that all sports grounds and stadiums in Vijayawada are being upgraded in this regard.

He said the indoor stadium will have all necessary facilities for athletes. He added that the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium and the Dandamudi Rajagopal Rao Indoor Stadium will also be developed under the supervision of Sports Authority of A.P. and the municipal corporation.

A review meeting will soon be held with the cooperation of MLAs Gadde Ramamohan and Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao regarding stadium development, he said. He announced that all stadiums will be developed so that the 2029 National Games can be hosted in Vijayawada.

Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao also accompanied the MP in inspecting the work at the stadium.
