Sports play a crucial role in instilling confidence, discipline, and leadership abilities in students, said Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao on Tuesday. Speaking at the inaugural session of the State-level School Band Competitions at KBC Boys High School in Patamata, Vijayawada, Mr. Rao emphasised that participation in sports and band activities fosters teamwork and cooperation—qualities vital for future success.

Referencing badminton star P.V. Sindhu, he said many accomplished athletes began their journeys at the school level. He called on teachers to actively encourage both boys and girls to participate in sports, noting that sports today offer promising career opportunities.
Mr. Rao urged that at least 50 schools should take part in next year’s band competitions, observing the increasing achievements of girls in both sports and cultural fields. He also cited India’s recent women’s cricket triumph, sharing his joy with students and inviting them to take pride in and draw inspiration from this success.
The event saw participation from Additional State Project Directors M.R. Prasanna Kumar and K. Ravindranath Reddy, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) State Secretary D. Devananda Reddy, State School Band Competition Nodal Officer and School Games Federation State Secretary G. Bhanumurthi Raju, Assistant Director A.D. Manohar Naik, school headmasters, and other dignitaries.
Students from across districts showcased their skills in the Brass Band and Pipe Band categories for both boys and girls. The winners who will represent Andhra Pradesh at the upcoming zonal-level competitions involving 11 States are: Montessori Indus Residential School, Kurnool (Brass Band – Boys); Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Gurukulam, Jangareddygudem (Pipe Band – Girls); and PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malkapuram, Visakhapatnam (Brass Band – Girls).
