Srisailam police reportedly seized ₹30 lakh cash from the car of Maharashtra-based businessmen and handed it over to the Income Tax department as failed to produce valid documents to prove the source of the amount.

The security staff at the checkpost in the entrance of Srisailam reportedly found bundles of currency notes in a car bearing Maharashtra registration and alerted their senior officials. After preliminary questioning, the cash was handed over to the local police.

Srisailam Circle Inspector (CI) Ganganath said that gold traders from Maharashtra often visit Hyderabad for regular business requirements and travel to Srisailam from there for the darshan of Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy. In this case, the vehicle was stopped for regular checking and the businessmen could not produce any documents for the cash, he explained.

The cash has been handed over to the Income Tax department for further investigation, he said.
