SSI, friend held for assault of labourer

A Special Sub-Inspector of Police and his friend have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a labourer.

Police said a 42-year-old man in Virudhunagar district came into contact with M. Manindar Prabhakaran, 55, of Annapooranipuram under Kuruvikulam police station limits, and his friends Kaliraj, 32, and Manohar of Keezha Azhagunachiyarpuram near Kuruvikulam through a social media platform.

When he went to Arafat Nagar near Sankarankovil recently following an invitation from the trio, they allegedly sexually assaulted the labourer besides robbing him of his ornaments.

Based on the complaint from the victim, the Kurivikulam police arrested Manindar Prabhakaran, a special sub-inspector of police attached to Alwarthirunagari police station in Thoothukudi district, and Kaliraj on Monday, while hunt was on to nab another suspect.
