Stage being readied for underground cabling system for GHMC

The stage is being set for setting up of underground cable system across the Greater Hyderabad limits replacing the hanging wires that are frequently turning out to be obstructions for taking up infrastructure development works.

The underground cable is proposed to be divided into three categories with T-fibre and other cables forming part of the network. The conversion is expected to cost ₹14,725 crore according to preliminary estimates, Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said.

The State Council of Ministers which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy here on Tuesday discussed the underground cabling project. A committee of officials had recently been deputed to cities like Bengaluru where the similar project is under implementation and studied the methodology adopted for the underground cable system.

“Officials concerned have been directed to prepare a working plan in this direction soon so that further action can be initiated into the project,” Mr. Sridhar Babu said.

The Cabinet had also approved alienation of 20.2 acre land for setting up an integrated residential school at Peddanallabelli and another 40 acre land for a sports school in Mulugu district. It was decided to set up more advanced technology centres expanding their reach to the people. The government had already converted 65 ITIs into ATCs and the Cabinet had given its nod for expanding the system to newer areas.

The Cabinet had also approved the proposal of merger of municipalities and municipal corporations within the Outer Ring Road limits into the GHMC. It was also decided to merge selected municipal bodies around the ORR into the GHMC limits. It was decided to amend the GHMC Act and the Telangana Municipalities Act paving the way for the merger.
