Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin said he completed reviewing 100 Assembly constituencies under the Udanpirappe Vaa programme, and expressed satisfaction with the party’s preparations for the 2026 Assembly election.
Mr. Stalin, who held one-on-one meetings with the party’s office-bearers, reviewed their performance and addressed their demands with respect to both the government and the party. The exercise commenced on June 13 with the office-bearers of the Chidambaram Assembly constituency.
“In some places, we have replaced office-bearers who did not measure up to our expectations. I also encouraged those who are working hard to strengthen the party organisation,” the Chief Minister told The Hindu.
Those who faced action included Coimbatore City district secretary N. Karthik, who was replaced by Senthamizhselvan; Sultanpet (West) union secretary P.V. Mahalingam; and Thanjavur (North) district secretary S. Kalayanasundaram.
DMK MP A. Mani, representing Dharmapuri, was put in charge of the Hosur Assembly constituency.
Office-bearers were instructed to make extra efforts to win constituencies that elected AIADMK candidates in the 2021 election. Mr. Stalin, who is also the president of the DMK, had warned that action would be taken against office-bearers if they failed to secure victories for party candidates in their respective constituencies.
Mr. Stalin said the DMK began preparing for the elections immediately after the Lok Sabha polls, and launched the Oraniyil Tamil Nadu programme, aimed at enrolling two crore members. This was followed by Udanpirappe Vaa. On Saturday, he met office-bearers from the Mayilam, Bhuvanagiri, and Cuddalore Assembly constituencies.
The Chief Minister said he remained in touch with the Booth Level Agents (BLA-2) to ensure that they worked effectively during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. “Most of our BLA-2 members are familiar with the SIR process, and only in some places did they require guidance,” he said.
During an interaction in Alangulam, the Chief Minister went the extra mile to honour a senior party member, Muthuvel of Alangulam in Tenkasi district. When Sivakumar, the party’s Alangulam (South) union secretary, informed him of his father’s wish to take a photograph with him, Mr. Stalin immediately telephoned Mr. Muthuvel and invited him to Arivalayam, the party headquarters.
