Members of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Monday inspected Poornima School in Jeedimetla — from where a video of a nursery student being assaulted by a caretaker emerged, causing public outrage.

The secretly recorded video, captured by a nearby resident, showed the caretaker thrashing and kicking the child. The four-year-old was hospitalised, and the parents approached the Jeedimetla police to demand a probe. The caretaker was also arrested.

According to Commission members Gogula Saritha and Marripally Chandana, the Monday inspection revealed shocking conditions at the school: it lacked CCTV surveillance; the toilets were unsafe for children; there was insufficient staff to supervise the students; and the school lacked safety systems to handle emergencies.

The Commission also gathered information from local police, school education officials, and the child welfare committee about the probe so far.

They observed that the school management acted negligently and failed to protect the children. They instructed strict action against the school and called for a full inquiry.
