Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna lashed out at the Congress and said that the State government is directionless.

Speaking to the media in the city on Sunday (November 23), Mr. Somanna alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ‘’deviated significantly’’ from his earlier style of leadership and is different from what he was during his first tenure as the Chief Minister.

“Siddaramaiah is running a government without direction. He has changed a lot and is not the Siddaramaiah I once knew,’’ remarked the Minister, accusing the Chief Minister of ‘’arrogance and corruption’’.

Launching a sharp attack on the State government, he said it lacks clarity and cohesion, evident in the ongoing tussle for power.

The internal divisions within the ruling Congress has weakened governance, he said, alleging that each leader is working at cross purposes and moving in a different direction. The party appears to be torn asunder and the Congress is focusing on political manoeuvring rather than public welfare, the Minister added.

“The mandate given by the people is being squandered and misused. Voters will teach the Congress a lesson,’’ he said.

The government came under flak for dithering on infrastructure and development issues, and Mr. Somanna pointed out that Congress leaders are preoccupied with securing their positions instead of focusing on governance.

He referred to allegations of the 40 per cent commission levelled by the Congress against the BJP in the run-up to the Assembly elections in 2023 and said none of it was proven. “But the same Congress can be accused of seeking a 70 per cent commission,’’ he added.

Refuting suggestions that the BJP will try to make a political gain in the present situation within the Congress, Mr. Somanna said people themselves will vote for the BJP in the next elections.
