A woman employee of the Social Welfare Department was grievously injured after being assaulted by four assailants armed with lethal weapons in Yadgir on Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Anjali Girish Kambanoor, a Second Division Assistant (SDA) working in the department.

She is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kalaburagi.

According to Superintendent of Police Prithvik Shankar, the incident occurred within the limits of the Yadgir Town Police Station.

“Anjali was on her way to office in her car when the group of four assailants intercepted her vehicle near Green City, smashed the car’s windshield and attacked her with sharp weapons on her face, hands and back. Her driver immediately rushed her to YIMS Hospital,” the Superintendent of Police said.

Anjali, who had earlier served as chairperson of the Shahabad City Municipal Council, was appointed in her current post two years ago under compassionate grounds following the death of her husband.

She is related to the former Labour Minister late C. Gurunath.

Her husband Girish Kambanoor and brother-in-law Satish Kambanoor were both murdered in as many incidents in 2022 and 2020, respectively.
