The ongoing protest by the Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education Institutions (FATHI) entered its fourth day on Thursday with the federation announcing changes to its upcoming programmes.
The Telangana Teachers Reconciliation Meet (Telangana Adhyapaka Savantana Sabha), initially scheduled to be held at LB Stadium on November 8, has been shifted to Aurora Engineering College campus in Bandlaguda after the Hyderabad City Police denied permission for the gathering at the stadium.
“We did not get permission from the police to hold the meet there, and they have asked us to change the venue,” said a FATHI member. Details of the new location are expected to be announced shortly.
FATHI also announced that the students’ rally, which was originally planned for November 11, has been postponed to November 15 due to technical reasons. The rally is expected to see participation from nearly ten lakh students marching towards the Telangana Secretariat. The federation urged all students from private affiliated colleges to take note of the change and attend the event to collectively raise their voice on issues concerning the future of higher education in Telangana.
As part of its ongoing protest, the federation also boycotted B. Pharmacy regular and supplementary examinations scheduled by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) on Thursday.
IAS officers slam statement
Meanwhile, the Telangana IAS Officers’ Association has condemned the statement made by FATHI against A. Sridevasena, the in-charge Secretary of the Higher Education Department. FATHI in a statement on November 5 demanded the transfer of A. Sridevasena alleging that she was misguiding the Chief Minister and other ministers on academic matters.
The association demanded that the remarks be withdrawn immediately and described the remarks made against Ms. Sridevasena as unwarranted and unfounded, lacking factual basis or verification.
“Questioning the motives of civil servants without substantiated facts undermines public trust and adversely affects the morale of officers committed to upholding the highest standards of public service,” the associated stated.
