Around 327 people from across the districts of Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Karaikkal participated in the free endoscopy screening camp for stomach cancer conducted by Delta Cancer Foundation (DCF) throughout November.
According to an official press release, 177 male and 150 female respondents participated in the camp. Of these, 38 youth below 30 years of age with stomach problems were sensitised on healthy food habits and prevention of cancer by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
A total of six patients were diagnosed with early stage stomach cancer, two with advanced stomach cancer and four patients with esophageal cancer. Surgery was performed free of cost for two patients from economically backward backgrounds.
Free endoscopy was conducted by senior gastroenterological consultants from Sri Ramakrishna Specialty Hospital, in Tiruchi, as part of the initiative.
“The November camp was a meaningful, action-focused healthcare programme that reached deep into the community. The medical team worked tirelessly to provide accurate diagnosis, counselling, and guidance for those who often ignore early symptoms due to lack of awareness or affordable treatments,” said the DCF release.
