Students digitise waste processing, map manholes and help Wenlock Hospital to display patient information

One team of students has done GIS mapping of over 1,000 manholes in three wards of Mangaluru City Corporation, while two other teams have digitised operations of panchayats and material recovery facilities with regard to collection and disposal of waste.

The fourth team has devised a programme for the display of patient related information on boards of Government Wenlock Hospital. The fifth team has made a short documentary on the work of Sanjeevini Okoota Self Help Group members involved in house-to-house collection of waste.

These five teams were part of the Dakshina Kannada district administration’s Urban and District Advancement through Localising Innovation (UDAL) fellowship programme. On Thursday, the teams presented before the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan, prototype of the solutions they have worked out in the last three months to the five problem statements given by the district administration. This programme was conducted in association with InUnity

A nine-member student team has done GIS mapping of 1,065 underground drainage manholes in ward Nos. 37, 38, and 40 of the MCC. The team comprised Ihthisham Farhaan Ahmad, Avyaya Sharma, Shresthi, Vasavi Nagaraj Joshi, Vivek S.A, Mohammed Sinan, Prakash Rathod, Shivanand Gopanna Lamani, and Rithik Rovin Das.

The team comprising Prateek Prakash Kini, Anirudha Udupa, and Sameeksha M.P. prepared a prototype to digitise the operation of Material Resource Facility (MRF). Similarly, the team comprising Praneesh, Sharanya P.A., Vivek D., and Deion Shalvin D’Souza has developed a prototype to digitise waste collection and disposal by panchayats.

The team comprising Gauresh G Pai, Varun Pai M.D., Jnanesh, Himanshu Hegde, and Ashwath A.S. has developed a system for the display of medicine availability, blood availability, and status of patients undergoing operation on the boards outside the pharmacy, the blood bank, and operation theatres of Government Wenlock Hospital.

The team comprising Tejashwini S. Murudeshwar, Raghuchandra, Chetan Kumar K., Bhuvan R. Shetty, and Rithesh R.K. did the documentary about Sanjeevini Okoota Self Help Group members.

Praising the students, Mr. Darshan said the solutions provided by the teams will be discussed by officials in the MCC, the zilla panchayat and, Government Wenlock Hospital. ā€œIf we are making use of your solutions, we will certainly involve the team members in scaling up the operation,ā€ he said.

Mr. Darshan presented stipend to 27 students and also presented mementos to representatives of eight educational institutions involved in the programme.

CEO of InUnity, Johnson Tellis, also took part in the programme on Thursday.
