The Bowenpally police arrested two men in connection with a cheating case linked to an alleged hawala network and recovered ₹4.05 crore in cash on Thursday. Officers said the cash was being moved illegally and was seized for verification of its source and ownership.
DCP (North) S. Rashmi Perumal said that the accused were identified as Prakash Motibhai Prajapathi, 30, and Pragnesh Keerthibai Prajapathi, 28, both from Gujarat.
“The case stems from a complaint lodged on December 7, 2024 by one V. Vishwanath Chary of Nagole, who said he and two friends handed over ₹50 lakh to one Mohammad Subhan Pasha for cash to RTGS exchange. They were promised ₹60 lakh through RTGS, but no transfer was made and the cash was not returned,” said the officer.
Meanwhile on Thursday, acting on information about Prakash’s movement, Bowenpally police intercepted a SUV with Maharashtra registration, in Addakal police limits of Mahabubnagar district.
Officers then traced the car and intercepted it, following which Prakash was caught in possession of ₹4.05 crore of hawala cash. “He admitted to receiving the ₹50 lakh in August 2024 and also confessed to moving the seized ₹4.05 crore from Nagpur to Bengaluru as part of an illegal hawala operation,” said the officer, adding that further probe is under way.
