Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (December 6, 2025) flagged off 950 tonnes of relief materials on board two Indian Navy vessels from the Chennai and Thoothukudi ports to support people affected by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka.

The neighbouring island nation was severely hit by Cyclone Ditwah, which claimed hundreds of lives and caused extensive damage to property there. Mr. Stalin flagged off a ship carrying relief materials that included 300 tonnes of sugar, 300 tonnes of dal, 25 tonnes of milk powder, 5,000 dhotis, 5,000 sarees, 10,000 towels, 10,000 blankets, and 1,000 tarpaulins from the Chennai port. He also flagged off another ship from the Thoothukudi port carrying 150 tonnes of sugar and 150 tonnes of dal.

Mr. Stalin also handed over a sample kit of the relief materials to Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka. According to a press release, the relief materials were mobilised through multiple departments of the Tamil Nadu government.

Ministers P.K. Sekarbabu and S.M. Nasar, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, and Rear Admiral Satish Shenai, Flag Officer Commanding, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area, were among those present at the Chennai port. In Thoothukudi, Ministers P. Geetha Jeevan and Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, and Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi, were present.
