Funds should be sanctioned for establishing the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at the SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre at Perundurai in Erode, and work should commence at the earliest, said BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran here on Wednesday.

Mr. Nagenthran inspected the site where Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had laid the foundation stone in June 2025 for the ₹136.76-crore project. He also visited nearby villages where groundwater has been contaminated due to the discharge of untreated effluents by industries operating in SIPCOT. He inspected the Nalla Odai, which remains polluted from effluent discharge.

Addressing media persons, he said that the government should prioritise people’s welfare and urged Mr. Stalin to sanction funds immediately for the CETP. Groundwater in 37 villages has been contaminated, and he urged the government to ensure drinking water supply to residents under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also sought compensation for landowners whose properties were acquired for the SIPCOT project nearly 30 years ago.
