The School Education Department has sanctioned the release of ₹875 crore to private schools to reimburse school fees of those admitted under the Right to Education Act in the last two years The act reserves 25% of seats at the entry-level for children from economically weaker sections.
The State reimburses the fees for these students to the schools using the Samagra Shiksha scheme funds.
According to the government order, a total of ₹450.85 crore will be released to 7,609 private schools, where 4,45,961 students are studying in LKG to Class 8 for 2024-25. Of this ₹80.7 crore is for LKG and UKG students, while ₹370.12 crore covers Classes 1 to 8.
Meanwhile another government order states that ₹424.98 crore for the academic year 2023-24 will be distributed in reimbursement to 7,594 private schools for students under RTE for classes LKG to 8.
The order was issued after district verification committees were set up by the Directorate of Private Schools to verify that the students admitted under RTE were studying in the school as per the EMIS details. The committees were headed by Chief Education Officers who conducted the inspection to the schools.
