Amid complaints from residents of Sadayankuppam and Irular Colony in the Manali Zone about the damaged portion of T.P.P. Road-Burma Nagar Link Road, Madhavaram MLA S. Sudharsanam has assured that the stretch would be repaired soon.
The road connects Manali High Road to Sadayankuppam, MMDA Colony, and Irular Colony.
M. Kamala Kannan, an activist in the area, said that despite repeated petitions and promises, there had been no resolution. He said the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) patched up the central portion of the road in May 2023, after constructing an underground drainage system.
“That same year, the stretch was battered by rain, and frequent use by heavy vehicles only worsened the condition. Such is the case with many roads in the Manali Zone. Officials must inspect these roads immediately,” he said.
Mr. Sudharsanam said he noticed the poor condition of the stretch when he travelled to Sadayankuppam recently. “During heavy rains, excess water flows into the Buckingham Canal through this route, and hence, the road is prone to damage every year,” he said.

But frequent users of the road said the lane has not been patched up, relaid, or even milled for several years, causing it to deteriorate further each year.
To this, Mr. Sudharsanam said he would check under which department — the Public Works Department, Highways Department, or Greater Chennai Corporation — the road falls, and request the officials concerned to take steps to repair it.
