The leadership issue is learnt to have come up for discussion during the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, with Home Minister G. Parameshwara seeking clarity on the issue, and asking the two leaders to take the Cabinet into confidence. Sources said that the Home Minister pointed out to developments within the party outside and queries from the media to which they were forced to respond.

Sources said that when Mr. Parameshwara sought the permission of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a group of senior Ministers to meet the central leadership to discuss the issue, the Chief Minister gave the green signal even as Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar nodded to the idea.

“The Chief Minister informed the Cabinet that AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge had called him and informed of his preference to meet senior Cabinet Ministers. Mr. Shivakumar even offered to take the batch of senior Ministers to the high command,” said a source.
