The Tamil Nadu government will give a compensation of ₹20,000 per hectare to farmers whose crops were affected by the rain in October, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran said on Tuesday (December 2, 2025).

The announcement comes a day after Chief Minister M.K. Stalin asked officials to give compensation to farmers as the rain had damaged agricultural crops on about 4,235 hectares and horticultural crops on 345 hectares.

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Mr. Ramachandran said the Chief Minister had ordered an assessment of the extent of crop damage during Cyclone Ditwah. Steps were being taken to do the assessment. According to a rough estimate, nearly 85,500 hectares of farmland was inundated.

The Minister said four people died during the cyclone — two of electrocution and two in incidents of wall collapse. A total of 582 head of cattle died and 1,601 huts were damaged in the heavy rain. A total of 3,534 people were evacuated and accommodated in 54 relief camps, he added.
