Tamil Nadu Minister for Cooperation KR Periakaruppan and four others from his family were acquitted in a disproportionate assets case by a court in Sivaganga on Thursday.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption officials had registered a case against the Minister and four of his family members – Prema (wife), Karupayee Ammal (mother), Gokul Krishnan (son) and Senthilvel (brother-in-law) in 2012. During 2006-11, when the Minister was holding HR&CE portfolio, the DVAC had filed a case based on specific complaints of disproportionate assets purchased by the family members. During trial, the Minister’s mother passed away.

The principal district and sessions judge Arivoli, who heard the case, acquitted all the four accused on the ground that there was insufficient evidence to prove the allegations and among others.
