A man, earlier arrested for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl, was sentenced to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a Fast Track Special Court for Trial and Disposal of Rape and POCSO Act cases in Rajendranagar on Wednesday.

The court also slapped a fine of ₹5,000 on the accused and ordered ₹5 lakh as victim compensation.

The accused, Shiva Santhula, 22, a tea vendor, resident of Jagadgirigutta, and a native of Gopanpally village in Rangareddy district, was arrested by Gachibowli police in September 2023 after he kidnapped the girl from her residence. He then took her to Padmasree Garden in Gowlidoddi where he sexually assaulted her.

Based on a complaint from the victim’s father, the police registered a case and later traced the girl.

Following a detailed investigation, a charge sheet was filed under sections of the IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The case was investigated by Inspector James Babu and ACP Srikanth, with Additional Public Prosecutor D. Upender representing the prosecution.
