A 23-year-old software employee was arrested by the Panjagutta police for allegedly raping and assaulting a woman colleague at her apartment in Kapadia Lane, Errum Manzil.
The accused, identified as Anki Bhanu Prakash Goud, a resident of BN Reddy Nagar in Rangareddy, and a native of Moosapet village in Mahbubnagar district, attacked the woman after an argument in the early hours of October 27.
Police said the victim, who has been living in Errum Manzil for the past three years, discontinued her fashion designing studies due to financial constraints and was employed as a technical support executive at a private company in Manikonda. She met Bhanu Prakash some time ago, and he promised to marry her. However, over time, he allegedly began to harass, threaten and physically assault her.
According to the complaint, Bhanu Prakash arrived at the victim’s flat on the night of October 26 and argued with her. Despite her roommates’ attempts to intervene, he locked the victim in her room around 2.30 a.m. and sexually assaulted her.
During the assault, he reportedly injured her hands and fingers with scissors, physically tortured her, and choked her. He also threatened to attack her with acid or kill her if she approached the police.
Following the complaint, the Panjagutta police arrested Bhanu Prakash and produced him before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody. Further investigation is under way.
