
Nitte (Deemed to be University) Vice-Chancellor M.S. Moodithaya and NITK Chemical Engineering professor D. Prasanna Belur distribute prizes to students at the valedictory function of The Nitte Climate Action Programme, 2025 on Monday, November 10, at Deralakatte in Mangaluru.

The future of climate action hinges on two pillars: technological innovation and responsible leadership, said D. Prasanna Belur, professor in chemical engineering, National Institute of Technology-Karnataka, Surathkal.
He was addressing students and the gathering at the valedictory function of The Nitte Climate Action Programme, 2025, organised by Nitte (Deemed to be University)’s SDG Cell in collaboration with the Dr. M. Ramanna Shetty Memorial English Medium High School, Tapovana at Deralakatte here on Monday, November 10.
Focusing on the critical link between scientific education, engineering and sustainable global development, Mr. Belur said, “As engineers and scientists, our mission is to develop sustainable solutions—whether it is in renewable energy, novel waste management techniques or creating biodegradable materials. To the participating students, they be curious, be critical, and learn to apply your academic knowledge to real-world problems.”
Nitte Vice-Chancellor M.S. Moodithaya reaffirmed the university’s dedication to sustainability as a core institutional value. “The Nitte Climate Action Program is not an isolated event; it is a manifestation of Nitte University’s foundational commitment to social responsibility and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),“ he said.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the Model Display Competition by the chief guest and the Vice-Chancellor recognising excellence in eco-friendly design and innovation.
The valedictory function was preceded by a vibrant Model Display Competition on the themes, including health and wellness related to climate change, eco-friendly environment for a greener planet, Nature is teacher: Learning Sustainability from Indian Knowledge system(IKS), and Eco-intelligence: Using AI to heal the planet for school children.
Nitte Institute of Architecture director Vinod Arhana inaugurated the competition. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from young students who presented innovative models on various aspects of climate mitigation and sustainability, drawing a large turnout from the public and academic community.
Suma Ballal, Deputy Registrar and Chief Coordinator of the SDG Cell, NSS Chief Coordinator Shashi Kumar Shetty and others were present.
