BJP’s Medak MP M. Raghunandan Rao asserted that Central agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) function independently under the NDA government, and that law will take its course in the ongoing probes into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, alleged phone-tapping and other scams linked to the previous BRS government.
At a press conference on Wednesday, he claimed that unlike Congress-led governments at the Centre, which “misused” agencies like the CBI, the BJP does not deploy them for political motives.
Responding to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s allegations against the BJP during the Jubilee Hills bypoll campaign, Mr. Rao asked why the Congress government had not initiated action against former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao or party senior leader T. Harish Rao over the past two years if it believed they were guilty.
“Mr. Revanth Reddy had promised to recover ill-gotten wealth and arrest BRS leaders within two months of coming to power. The Chief Minister should now explain why the investigations were suddenly handed over to Central agencies during a special session of the Legislative Assembly,” he said.
Later, at a separate press conference, BJP Legislature Party leader A. Maheshwar Reddy released a letter addressed to CM Revanth Reddy, making a slew of demands: compensation of ₹30,000 per acre for crop damage caused by recent heavy rains, a white paper on funds spent so far on tackling natural calamities, implementation of a farm insurance scheme as promised in the manifesto and procurement of wet paddy, cotton and maize crops by the agencies concerned.
Meanwhile, BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao accused the Congress of indulging in “divisive and appeasement politics”, citing the Chief Minister’s open appeal for Muslim support. He described it as a dangerous attempt to incite social divisions for political gain and to deceive the majority community.
