Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur said that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme is making strides in addressing the declining child sex ratio and empowering girls through multi-sectoral interventions in Telangana, fostering mindset changes via promotions of sports, awareness on the PC-PNDT Act, and skilling programmes.
She was responding to a question from Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya in Parliament on Friday. In her question, Ms. Kavya sought specifics on schemes under BBBP and Mahila Shakti Kendra in Warangal, the status of Anganwadi centres with nutrition and early childhood care, child nutrition under Poshan Abhiyaan, including growth monitoring, and violence prevention measures like One-Stop Centres and helplines in the State.
She also commended the 36 operational One-Stop Centres in Telangana, assisting over 77,858 women since 2015 with medical, legal, and psycho-social support. “The Women Helpline (181), integrated with ERSS-112, has aided 76,444 women, offering 24/7 emergency response,” she said explaining the Telangana government’s support.
On child welfare, she highlighted Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, reorganising services into nutrition support, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), and upgraded infrastructure. “With 35,769 Anganwadi centres in Telangana equipped for growth monitoring using devices like infantometers and weighing scales, we are ensuring timely interventions against malnutrition,” she said in a statement here.
