HYDERABAD
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has alleged that the Congress government in the State is unveiling a scam of ₹8,000 crore in the name of HAM (hybrid annuity model) model of road contracts. The party also questioned the silence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on it, raising a suspicion that they are also part of it.
Speaking to newspersons here on Saturday, BRS MLAs Vemula Prashanth Reddy, K. Venkatesh Yadav and K. Sanjay Kumar demanded that the government cancel the HAM tenders immediately. Deputy Chief Minister/Finance Minister and Ministers for Roads & Buildings and Panchayat Raj had been repeatedly claiming that roads in the State would be sparkling as mirrors with ₹27,000 crore HAM tenders. In the first phase, tenders for works worth ₹17,000 crore were being called and of that, ₹8,000 crore scam was in the making, the BRS leaders said.
Instead of calling for tenders road-wise for 1,000 roads selected for the HAM model, the government had invited bids as large packages so that 10% amount (₹1,700 crore) could be spared as mobilisation advance to be gobbled up by the government bigwigs, the BRS leaders alleged.
