Fifteen days after a video surfaced on social media showing alleged ISIS recruiter Zuhab Hamid Shakeel Maz and two other undertrials using mobile phones inside the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison on November 8, the prison authorities have filed a complaint seeking a detailed investigation into the source of the phones.

According to the complaint filed by Imam Saab Myageri, a prison staff member currently facing departmental action, on Friday, Zuhaib and two undertrials- Shahid Khan, arrested by the D.J. Halli police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in 2024, and Umesh B.A., a serial rapist who was recently shifted from the Belagavi prison and admitted to the prison hospital ward- were allegedly found using mobile phones illegally.

The incident came to light after another inmate recorded the trio using the devices and circulated the video outside the prison. The video later appeared in media reports and went viral on social media, sparking allegations of preferential treatment and the use of banned items inside the high-security jail.

In his complaint, Myageri has urged the jurisdictional Parappana Agrahara police to investigate how the mobile phones were smuggled inside, who provided them, who recorded the clip.

Police have taken up the case and launched a probe.
