Textile entrepreneurs should work on measures to overcome the current challenges and to sustain their operations, said Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Chairman and Managing Director of Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW).
Inaugurating a two-day All India Textile Conference of the Textile Association (India) in Coimbatore on Friday, he said the problems faced by the textile industry are the worst in a lifetime. The shifting of manufacturing bases started two decades ago. The textile industry in India runs on trust, partnership, and centres of excellences (hubs) created by entrepreneurs. This is challenged now and to sustain businesses the entrepreneurs should look at innovative measures, he said. LMW will dedicate the next 10 years to work with the technical people in the industry and make the country stronger in textiles, he said.
T. Rajkumar, vice chairman of the South India Textile Research Association, said the knowledge and professional skills of the professionals in an industry should be constantly upgraded. The Central government has taken several landmark decisions in the recent months that are expected to enable the textile industry to exhibit competitiveness and excellence.
According to K.V. Srinivasan, Managing Director of Premier Mills, the focus of the government should be on reviving cotton production in the country by incentivising cotton farmers and look at seed technology.
R.K. Vij, who will soon take over as the president of the Textile Association (India), added that the textile industry starts with spinning and spinning machinery. With the government addressing several structural issues, the industry is expected to see a revival.
T.L. Patel, president of the Association, said that with 28 chapters, the Association is focusing on the emerging areas such as circular economy and sustainability.
K. Ramalingam, chairman of the event, spoke about the sessions and the speakers at the two-day conference.
Sivaraj Spinning Mills Managing Director K. Sivaraj Prabhu said every entrepreneur should look at learning something new every day.
