The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) has ordered the shutdown of 305 industries for failing to comply with pollution control norms. Notices were issued to 1,234 units after reviewing 2,069 industries, and closure orders were later revoked for 697 industries upon confirmation of compliance, according to an official release on Tuesday.
TGPCB granted approvals for the establishment of 2,620 new companies and issued Consent for Operations (CFO) to 3,521 units between January 2024 and October 2025, after verifying adherence to environmental norms for air and water pollution control.
About 7,966 wastewater/hazardous waste samples and 3,807 air pollutant samples were collected from various industries during the same period to ensure strict pollution management. Laboratory results will determine further action against non-compliant units.
A 24/7 online monitoring cell has been set up to continuously track emissions and pollutants from 501 highly polluting industries. The Task Force Committee reviewed 108 industries for exceeding pollution norms and directed immediate corrective measures, warning of legal action for continued non-compliance.
Computerized allocation of inspections was introduced through a tool developed by the Centre for Good Governance (CGG). From January 2024 to October 2025, 1,664 industrial inspections were carried out and 324 industries were reviewed, with necessary enforcement actions implemented.
A toll-free helpline (10741) and a mobile application ‘Janavani – Kalushya Nivarini’ was introduced while night patrolling is also being undertaken in industrial zones. Telangana currently has 12,264 industries classified under Red, Orange, Green and White categories based on pollution severity, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines.
TGPCB stated it is closely monitoring both new and existing industrial units through a combination of approvals, inspections, notices and penalties to curb pollution. Five Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs), 26 e-waste recycling units, four Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste management facilities and 12 biomedical waste treatment plants have been established for safe waste disposal and recycling.
The Board also highlighted effective measures such as strict implementation of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems in bulk drug and chemical industries, along with reuse of treated wastewater, as key contributors to pollution reduction.
