Work under way on widening the Thanjavur-Pattukottai Road.
Widening of Thanjavur-Pattukottai State Highway into a four-lane road is nearing completion. The work will be completed by the end of February 2026, sources in the Highways Department told The Hindu.
The road width is being more than doubled to a total of 15 metres, with two carriageways of seven metres each and road median.
The Thanjavur-Pattukottai-Avanam road stretch is being developed at a total cost of about ₹108 crore. The work commenced in 2021 under Performance Based Maintenance Contract. No land acquisition was required for the project, which involved reconstruction of 49 culverts. Over 250 electric poles have been shifted.
