The Hindu Made of Chennai’s annual photography contest prize distribution ceremony was held at the newspaper’s head office on Anna Salai on Friday.
In all, 51 winners were selected from 2,200 entries. The winning photographs touched upon the many moods and celebrations of Chennai, in line with this year’s theme Kondattam.
One of the winning photographs, featuring the Vivekanandar Illam and an autorickshaw in motion, was shot on an android phone. “This is the first time I have won a photography award in my own city. This photo is part of my ‘auto’ series and was the first image that came to mind, because for me, it symbolically represents Chennai,” said its photographer Dheeraj Khandelwal.
Another winning entry, taken by engineering student Surega Sakthivel, captured a Mylapore flower vendor stringing jasmine. “I captured this candid moment during one of our photography club’s photo walks to Mylapore.”
The winners received the awards from L.V. Navaneeth, CEO, The Hindu Group, and Prince Frederick, Associate Editor, The Hindu. The Expert Partner for the photography contest was Madras Photo Bloggers and the Gift Partner was United Brothers.
