Thiruvalla legislator Mathew T. Thomas and his wife, Achamma Alex, have discovered that their names are missing from the voter list currently being used for the the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) verification process.
The issue surfaced when the booth level officer (BLO) informed the MLA that the 2002 electoral roll, the base document for the ongoing SIR verification, does not contain their names. The matter came to notice while the legislator was filling out the SIR form.
Talking to the media on Thursday, Mr. Thomas said both he and his wife had been regular voters since 1984 and had cast their ballots in every election up to the last one. He still possessed the voter identity cards issued to them in 2002.
Complaint with EC
However, officials have reportedly told him that the names cannot be incorporated into the system due to technical constraints. “This is shocking. I have contested Assembly elections six times, won five times, and even contested once for Parliament. Yet officials now say my name doesn’t appear in the 2002 voter system,” he said.
Mr. Thomas said he is preparing to file a formal complaint with the Election Commission citing the discrepancy.
