Thoothukudi Q branch police seized a large consignment of tablets, syringes and ampules worth ₹1.25 crore in the wee hours of Saturday at Veerapandiyapattinam, which were intended for smuggling to Sri Lanka.

Responding to a lead received by Q branch Inspector Vijaya Anitha, a team led by Sub Inspector Ramachandiran conducted a patrol near a timber shop in Veerapandiyapattinam seashore. On noticing the police presence, the accused abandoned the consignment, offloading it from their boat before fleeing the scene.

The police seized the goods and handed them over to the customs department for further investigation.
