Guntur district CCS police arrested two inter-State burglars and a receiver of stolen property, recovering gold and silver ornaments worth ₹26.5 lakh from four house-theft cases. District SP Vakul Jindal, disclosed the details during a media briefing at the District Police Office on Monday, appreciating the CCS and Lalapeta police teams for the swift investigation.
According to police, the burglars — Chillara Suresh (38), a notorious repeat offender from Gorantla in Guntur, and Kaja Nagaveera Bhaskar Rao (24) of Ramalingeswara Nagar in Vijayawada — were involved in a burglary reported on November 12 at Sampath Nagar. The complainant, Venkata Appayya Shastri, returned from Tirupati to find his house broken open and 152 grams of gold missing. Lalapeta police registered the case.
Investigation officials tracked the accused using technical surveillance and intelligence on previous offenders. The duo were detained at Lalapeta on Monday and subsequently confessed to three other burglaries reported in Lalapeta, Nagarampalem, and Pattabhipuram.
Police recovered a total of 227 grams of gold and 182 grams of silver stolen by the accused. A third suspect, Lanka Rajesh (40) of Sugali Nagar, who purchased stolen jewellery from them, was also arrested.
The SP warned that stringent action would be taken against burglars and those who aid them by buying stolen property.
