Three arrested with methamphetamine near Coimbatore

The Chettipalayam police have arrested three persons on charge of possessing 9.7 grams of methamphetamine, a synthetic drug.

Kadar Basha alias Sabeer, 29, of Chettipalayam, Shafi Khan, 39, and Balakrishnan alias Babloo, 34, of Podanur were arrested on Thursday.

According to the police, a team led by Sub-Inspector Elavendhan went to Nehru Nagar at Orattukuppai based on specific information regarding the sale of methamphetamine. The police subsequently searched the premises of a vegetable shop run by Khan at Eachanari junction.

The police said that Basha, Khan and Balakrishnan were found in possession of 9.7 grams of methamphetamine.

The Chettipalayam police registered a case against them under different Sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and arrested them.

Chettipalayam Inspector Prem Anand M. said the accused had become friends through their common interest in pigeon keeping. They sourced the drug for self consumption as well as sale, he said.
