Three, including a DMK functionary, die in accidents in Salem

Three persons, including a DMK functionary, died in separate accidents on Thursday.

C. Nallankiyan (60), a resident of Pallakadu near Navalur, was the Pallakadu branch DMK secretary and was a farmer. On Thursday while he headed to Gangavalli on a bicycle, a speedy car that headed to Kolli Hills from Chennai lost control after passing over a speed-breaker and collided with the bicycle. In the impact, the bicycle and the car plunged into the farmland near the road. In the accident Nallankiyan died on the spot and the car driver, K. Praveen Kumar (28), a resident of Nesapakkam in Chennai, sustained injuries and was admitted to Attur Government Hospital. The Gangavalli police registered a case and are investigating further.

Likewise, U. Shajahan (23), a resident of Koneripatti near Thammampatti, along with his friend Aravind (27), headed to Kondaiyampalli by bike on Wednesday night. When they reached the Koneripatti bus stop, the bike collided with a borewell lorry that was parked on the roadside. In the accident, the duo sustained grievous injuries and died on the way to the hospital. The Thammampatti police registered a case and are investigating further.
