Three persons, including a farmer, were injured after a van they were travelling overturned after a tyre burst at Konavattam on Sunday.

Police said that S. Arumugam (56) was a farmer near Gudiyatham town. He harvested around two tonnes of paddy. He hired a van to transport it to the godown of District Procurement Centre in Vellore town.

Along with three workers, Arumugam was travelling in the vehicle when the van driver, K. Venkatesan (54) lost control of the vehicle when a tyre on the rear side of the vehicle burst. From the impact, the vehicle overturned on the carriageway. The farmer and two workers were injured in the incident. Loads of paddy bags spilled onto the stretch, affecting traffic movement.

Based on an alert, Vellore North police rescued injured persons, who were admitted at Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore. Rice bags were removed from the stretch to restore traffic movement on the route. A case was registered. A probe is under way.
