Three members of a family were killed and 12 others injured, when a speeding truck-mounted borewell rig rammed into a stationary pickup truck at Gopalpur crossroads in Elkaturthy mandal of Hanamkonda district shortly after Thursday midnight.
The victims were identified as Swapna, 16, Kalamma, 58, and Srinath, 6. They hailed from Sudanpalle village in Kuravi mandal of Mahabubabad district, the police said. They were part of a marriage party and met with a tragic end while returning home after attending the wedding reception held at the bridegroom’s native village in Siddipet district in the ill-fated vehicle.
Sources said that around 30 persons including several children were travelling in the pickup truck on the Siddipet-Hanamkonda highway when the accident took place. The truck-mounted rig travelling at a high speed crashed into the pickup truck from behind, killing the trio, leaving other occupants of the vehicle injured. Some of the grievously injured persons were admitted to the MGM Hospital in Warangal. The condition of two of them is said to be serious.
The Mulkanoor police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
