Three people, including a 22-year-old nurse, died in separate road accidents in the city on Saturday, while one other man remains critical.
Police sources said one of the victims Deepika, 22, a resident of Arumuga Mudali Street in Perambur was working as a nurse at a private hospital in Thousand Lights. Deepika left from her home on her two-wheeler to go to work as usual at 6 a.m.
When she reached Otteri Thideer Nagar, a van transporting staff to the same private hospital where she worked hit her. Deepika was thrown off the motorcycle, and the van’s wheel ran over her, killing her on the spot.
Upon receiving the information, Traffic Investigation Police rushed to the spot, recovered Deepika’s body, and sent it to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Police said the driver of the van, Sreenivasan, was arrested.
Similarly, two people died in separate accidents in Taramani and Neelankarai. Lokeshwaran, 27, a resident of Taramani, was riding a motorcycle with a friend on the 100-feet road in Taramani. The motorcycle lost control and crashed into the median. Lokeshwaran sustained a severe head injury and died on the spot. Manikandan suffered serious injuries and has been admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.
Near the Neelankarai RTO office, an unidentified car hit a man aged around 50 as he attempted to cross the road. He died on the spot. Adyar Traffic Investigation Police have registered cases and are investigating the incident.
