Rural Development Minister I. Periyasamy on Monday flagged off buses for three new routes at Kamarajar bus stand in Dindigul. It will connect Dindigul to the rural areas of the district.

The buses will be operated from Dindigul to Ottupatti (via Vakkampatti, Sempatti, Sithayankottai), Dindigul to D. Kombai (via Pithalaipatti, Hanumantharayankottai, Karisalpatti) and Dindigul to Papanampatti (via Palamrajakkapatti, Kotturavarampatti).

Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan, TNSTC Dindigul General Manager A. Muthukrishnan and other officials were present.

The Minister also inaugurated the development works on right and left main canals of Marudhanadhi dam in Ayyampalayam in Athoor in Dindigul district. A total of ₹8.01 crore has been earmarked for the development of the right main canal and ₹17.85 crore for the development of the left main canal.

The modernisation and development projects will benefit the farmers of the region. The development of the right main canal will irrigate 1,616.03 acres of agricultural land. The farmers of Ayyampalayam, Devarappanpatti, Pativeeranpatti and surrounding areas will be benefited through the project, according to a press release. The development of the left main canal will irrigate 2,537.53 acres of agricultural lands. The farmers of Ayyampalayam, Sitharevu and surrounding areas will be benefited through the project, the press release said.
