A court here awarded life imprisonment to three persons for murdering a youth.
According to prosecution, Esakkipandi, 23, of Veeralaperunchelvi under Munneerpallam police station limits was murdered in 2013 due to prior enmity. The police arrested Panchaandi alias Pethuru Mani, 40, Inbaraj alias Edward Inbaraj, 40, and Muthukumar, 38, all from the same area, in connection with the murder.
Third Additional Sessions Court Magistrate Robinson awarded life imprisonment to the trio on Friday and imposed a fine of ₹1,500 each on them.
The Tirunelveli district police, by properly producing all witnesses in 23 murder cases, have ensured the conviction of 76 persons since January last. While one of them was awarded death sentence, 75 others received life imprisonment, said Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan.
