Thrissur emerged as overall champions with 696 points at the 26th State Special School Arts Festival held at Tirur in Malappuram recently. The winning team was accorded a reception by District Collector Arjun Pandian at the Thrissur Collectorate on Tuesday.
Students from government, aided, and government-recognised unaided special schools as well as higher secondary and vocational higher secondary sections participated in the festival. Competitions were held for children in the aurally challenged, visually challenged, and intellectually challenged categories. The festival is organised annually by the Department of General Education to promote the holistic development of special children.
The government has announced a cash award of ₹1,000 for every participant who secured an A grade in their respective events.
Launched in 1995-96, the State Special School Arts Festival has grown beyond a platform for the artistic and literary expression of special children to become a major meeting point for the students. Children view the festival as a joyful opportunity to overcome their physical and mental challenges and showcase their talents.
