The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has invited Expressions of Interest (EoIs) to develop an international cricket stadium in Coimbatore under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model.

According to the document, the open-air jail site near the Ondipudur flyover, covering 30.18 acres in two parcels, has been identified for the project. Project Site-A, measuring 20.18 acres along Trichy Road, has been earmarked for the stadium, while Project Site-B, about 10 acres and located roughly 100 metres away along Jail Road, has been proposed for a commercial complex and parking facilities.

The stadium will have a minimum seating capacity of 25,000 to 30,000, with outdoor practice nets, corporate boxes, media and press areas, VIP lounges, spectator amenities, players’ and match officials’ facilities, and retail spaces.

The concessionaire will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the stadium for the entire concession period of 60 years.

The project will be implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be formed by the selected concessionaire. The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), as the project proponent, will hold a golden equity share in the SPV, while both SDAT and TIDCO will have two board seats.

Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar said the prison land has been transferred to SDAT in the revenue records, and the open-air jail will be shifted to the new central prison at Bilichi near Karamadai. “Once the tender process is completed and a government order is issued, work on shifting and construction of the stadium will begin,” he said.

Senthil Kumar, General Manager of TIDCO, said the PPP mode was the most feasible option for the project. “Design and facility details will be finalised after the bidding process,” he said.
