Library week at college
A reading marathon, a book exhibition and elcoution competitions in Tamil and English elocution, essay writing, drawing and digital design, were among the activities organised by the Library and PG Department of Library and Information Science of Holy Cross College to celebration National Library Week recently. Over 500 students participated in the reading marathon, held in collaboration with the District Central Library. A book exhibition featuring publications from several major publishers received an overwhelming response, drawing around 2,500 students and faculty members.
Awareness programme
Students and faculty members of Jamal Mohamed College took a pledge against drug abuse during an event organised in association with District Child Protection Unit, Tiruchi, as part of the Union Governmentās Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) initiative recently. Several district-level officials also participated.
Faculty development programme
Harnessing artificial intelligence for academic and scientific research was the focus of a week-long faculty development programme organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College in Tiruchi recently. B. Chinna Muthu, Madras Christian College, Chennai spoke on data-driven approaches and AI-enabled research. Vijaya Kittu Manda, researcher at PBMET, Visakhapatnam focused on AI tools, research modelling and advanced methodological frameworks. Experts from various other educational institutions helmed the sessions.
Language club
The English Masterās Club was inaugurated at Sri Vignesh College of Engineering and Technology recently, with the aim of improving the language proficiency, competitive communication skills, and overall soft skills development of students recently. Owenita DāCruz, head, Training Department, Trichy Plus, spoke about the critical difference between theoretical knowledge and practical communicative mastery.
Entrepreneurship skills
Students of Kings College of Engineering, Punalkulam, were encouraged to develop innovation and business skills during the National Entrepreneurship Day Celebrations jointly organised by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) and Ministry of Education, Institution Innovation Council recently. In his address, D. Prakash, Branch Manager, Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation, Thanjavur, shared insights on the challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurs. G. Abraham Lincoln, District Programme Manager, Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute Tamil Nadu, discussed government schemes and subsidies for entrepreneurs.
Convocation
A total of 927 students, including 38 university rank holders, received their degrees at the convocation of Srinivasan College of Arts and Science in Perambalur recently. S. Vincent, Member Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, advised graduates to work hard and remain dedicated in order to achieve success in life. Principal N. Vetrivelan, presented the annual report. Chancellor of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, A. Srinivasan conferred the degrees.
Short film contest winners
A short film created by first-year students of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Nursing College, Perambalur ā Fasil Ahamed, Jijin Joy, Thirthana, Moni Sri, and Yogeshwaran ā bagged a cash prize of ā¹10,000 along with a certificate of appreciation at the āDrug-Free Tamil Naduā competition conducted by Tamil Nadu State Crime Investigation Department recently. More than 890 colleges across the state participated, and 25 short films were selected as winners. The team was felicitated by Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University chancellor A. Srinivasan.
Certification workshop
Approximately 100 farmers from the Viralimalai and Annavasal blocks participated in a training programme on seed certification hosted by Mother Terasa College of Agriculture, Illuppur recently. In his address, K. Elancheziyan, Seed Certification and Organic Certification Officer (in-charge), explained the procedures, including field inspection, seed testing, and other essential steps. As part of the event, farmers were provided with saplings and seed balls, encouraging sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices.
Training programme
Over 105 undergraduate students in agriculture and horticulture were given vocational training on the procedures for issuing organic farming certificates to farmers at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute (PAJANCOA), Puducherry recently. The three-day programme was organised by PAJANCOA in association with Prithivi Organic Farmersā Trust based in Kathiramangalam village, Thanjavur.
Special lecture on Indian philosophy
Philosophy is a discipline that studies fundamental questions such as truth, existence and life. It has been a central element in the intellectual history of civilizations, said Arunachalam Appu, professor, Alagappa University, delivering a lecture on Indian Philosophy under the āStudy Circle Lecture Seriesā, sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, at SASTRA, deemed university.
Opportunities in logistic sector highlighted.
The growing global demand for skilled professionals in logistics, international shipping, supply chain planning, and trade compliance was highlighted by Arun Kumar, Chief Operating Officer, Logwiz Institute of Shipping and Logistics Private Limited, Chennai, at a āPower Talkā at the Gnanam School of Business, Sengipatti. He explained how the logistics industry plays a crucial role in international business and how India is becoming a strategic hub for global trade and cargo movement.
Last week, the Gnanam School of Business, Sengipatti signed a memorandum of understanding with Startup Singham, a Chennai-based business platform provider for innovators and investors. The MoU aims to create a structured bridge between management education and the entrepreneurial ecosystem, according to a GSB release.
Cycle rally held on NCC Day.
The 34 (TN) Independent Company of National Cadets Corps, Thanjavur organised a cycle rally from Thanjavur to Kumbakonam on November 23 as part of the NCC formation day celebrations. A total of 35 cadets, three associate NCC officers drawn from various NCC-affiliated institutions participated in the 60 kilometre rally from the Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology, Vallam near Thanajvur to the Arasu Engineering College, Kumbakonam. Earlier, two separate NCC Day activities at Thanjavur ā a temple-cleanliness drive in coordination with the Archaeological Survey of India, and an awareness campaign ā were held under the leadership of Colonel Kapil Tuli, Officer Commanding, according to an official release.
