Collector V. Saravanan on Tuesday held a coordination meeting with officials of all government departments regarding the arrangements to be made in advance for the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival to be held from December 19 to January 9 at the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.

The Collector asked the police to put in place necessary security besides traffic regulation for devotees during the period. Arrangements should be made for keeping the temple premises and its surroundings clean besides ensuring uninterrupted supply of drinking water.

He said a large number of devotees would throng Srirangam in view of the opening of Paramapada Vasal on December 30. All necessary arrangements would be in place to ensure smooth crowd management. Additional lighting facilities would be provided at the Amma Mandapam bathing ghat and at the Kollidam bathing ghat in Srirangam. Mobile toilets and temporary urinals should be put in place at different places. Fire tenders should be deployed at vantage points and medical teams deployed within the temple precincts to provide free medical aid.

Mr. Saravanan said that uninterrupted power supply would be ensured during the entire festival period. Personnel from the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. would be kept ready to attend to any electrical related defects, the Collector said and directed the officials to remove encroachments and operate special buses in connection with the festival.

He said that steps would be taken to ensure that all important trains stopped for a few minutes at Srirangam Railway station for three days from December 29.

Tiruchi Commissioner of Police Kamini, District Revenue Officer R. Balaji, and Srirangam temple Joint Commissioner S. Sivaram Kumar were present.
