Tiruchi Corporation has revised the cost estimate for the proposed Package III of the 10.11-km inner link road from Panjapur to Kudamuritti River.

The link road is being developed along the banks of the Koraiyar and the Kudamuriti, connecting the Integrated Bus Terminus in Panjapur with several residential areas of the city.

The project is executed by Tiruchi Corporation in three packages: Panjapur to Karumandapam for 2 km at ₹81.72 crore, Woraiyur to Kudamurutti bridge for 2.260 km at ₹68 crore, and Karumandapam to Woraiyur for 5.85 km at ₹334 crore.

Earlier, Package III was estimated at ₹182 crore. However, it has been revised to ₹334 crore under the Infrastructure and Amenities Funds (I&A Funds) and Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (TUFIDCO). The civic body has submitted the report to the State government for administrative sanction for the revised estimate and fund allocation. With this, the overall project cost stands at ₹483.72 crore.

Of the three phases, Package III will cover the longest stretch, running along the banks of the Koraiyar and the Kudamuruti rivers. Originally, about 20 acres were earmarked for land acquisition for this section. Following opposition from residents, it was reduced to four acres. Now, the civic body has further revised the plan to acquire only about 1.3 acres of land. However, the length and width of the link road are said not to undergo any major changes.

ā€œSteps are being taken to speed up the land acquisition process, and we are holding talks with the private land owners. A tender to identify a suitable contractor is likely to be floated by January,ā€ said Mayor M. Anbazhagan.

Meanwhile, work on Packages I and II, which began earlier this year, is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by 2026.
