The district administration is prepared to carry out the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, ordered by the Election Commission, in the nine Assembly constituencies in Tiruchi district from November 4, Collector and District Election Officer V. Saravanan said here.

“We have completed matching the previous SIR electoral rolls, which will be the base list, with the current rolls and 45% of the voters are present on the previous list. This makes our job bit easier,” Mr. Saravanan told The Hindu. For these voters, only the filled-in enumeration forms need to be obtained.

For rural areas, the previous SIR was held in 2002 and in Tiruchi East and Tiruchi West the previous SIR was in 2005.

The SIR seeks to ensure accuracy of the electoral rolls by identifying the names of absent, shifted, dead voters or duplicate names and collect details of newly eligible electors. The exercise would be carried out with January 1, 2026 as the qualifying date and all those who attain the age of 18 on the day can apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls.

The enumeration under the current SIR would be carried out from November 4 to December 4. Commencing November 4, all 2,543 booth-level officer (BLOs) will go door-to-door to issue the enumeration forms to existing voters. Voters would have to fill the forms in duplicate and hand them back to the BLOs when they visit the households again to collect the forms. The Enumeration Forms, printed in Tamil, would have the names of the existing voters and the old photo. Any adult member of the family can fill the details sought in the form, including date of birth and mobile number. They would have to affix the latest colour photograph in the forms. The BLOs will help the voters in filling the forms.

Voters need not submit any document at the time of submission of forms. The draft electoral rolls will be prepared based on the enumeration and published on December 9. Objections or claims can be filed between December 9 and January 8. The BLOs will decide on them based on an inquiry. Notices will be issued to voters if they have not provided the required information or provided wrong information. Only those voters who were issued notices will be required to submit any one of the 13 documents specified by the EC. The BLOs concerned will pass orders after verification/inquiry. The final electoral rolls will be published only after this process on February 7, Mr. Saravanan said.

The district administration has notified helplines for each Assembly constituency to help voters fill the enumeration forms and provide information on the SIR process.

Printing of the unique Enumeration Forms (EFs) is under way. The BLOs underwent a training here on Friday.
