The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered notice to CB-CID on an appeal filed by K. Saravanan, father of Surjith who is the main accused in the case of Tirunelveli caste killing of techie Kavin Selvaganesh, seeking bail.
Justice K. Murali Shankar sought the response of the CB-CID on the appeal filed by suspended Sub-Inspector of Police Saravanan. The appellant, who was arrested on July 30, has been named the second accused in the caste killing case.
The appellant said at the time of the incident he was on duty at Rajapalayam Special Battalion in Virudhunagar district. Till the news of the incident appeared on satellite TV channels, he was not aware of what had happened, he said, adding that he was innocent.
His earlier bail petitions filed before the Second Additional District and Sessions Court (PCR) in Tirunelveli, had been dismissed, he said. Therefore, he sought setting aside of the dismissal order and grant of bail. The court posted the matter to November 18.
Kavin Selvaganesh, a Scheduled Caste youth from Arumugamangalam near Eral in Thoothukudi district, was in a relationship with Siddha doctor S. Subhashini of Palayamkottai, who belongs to an intermediate caste.
Kavin was murdered at KTC Nagar on July 27 by Subhashini’s younger brother Surjith. The police arrested Surjith, Saravanan and the accused’s cousin Jayapaul. Surjith’s mother Krishnakumari, also a Sub-Inspector of Police, has also been placed under suspension.
